Want to know why this is one of my favourite sessions with a client turned friend in Port Stanley last summer?
Well there are many reasons, but mainly it’s because I feel like I was able to accomplish what I really feel is my job as a photographer. I am to capture the love, interaction and connection between a family or couple. They weren’t afraid to act a little silly, have fun together and just be with each other which in turn let me capture their real smiles and personalities.
In my sessions I aim to get some posed family portraits that most people want but my passion is capturing the interaction between a family or couple and preserving memories. I want to capture the way your kids hug you, how their hair falls around their little faces, how your spouse looks at you, how everyone smiles when they’re having fun and all of the details that get lost in day to day life.
When we look back years from now those are the things that we will miss the most, the little things. Nobody will say “hey remember that time we all stood and tried to look perfect for the camera and the kids wouldn’t stay still and how stressed we were for family pictures. No, they will say, “Hey, remember that time we took the kids to the beach, how much they loved running along the shore and digging their feet in the sand. Remember how much fun we had as a family that night?”
The beach is the absolute perfect spot for a session because everyone is more relaxed and happier there. You can walk along the water and get amazing pictures with perfect golden light or overcast cloudy skies reflecting on the water and the wind blowing in your hair creating beautiful movement. Don’t waste time worrying about how perfect everyone looks, stress about everyone standing still and look at the camera with a nice smile or directing and putting pressure on your kids. Book a session with me to let me capture your family’s natural interaction and I’ll sneak in some amazing shots you didn’t know we’re even being taken.
Trying to look and be perfect for the camera isn’t real and those pictures won’t be the ones you cherish for a lifetime. The ones where you see that special look in your partners eye, an amazing laugh or your child snuggling into your chest are the photos that show emotion, trigger amazing memories and be passed down as a reminder of your special bond. This is your legacy, your relationships, your love and as a photographer my passion.
